Job Description



Maintain a flexible work schedule to perform duties of a Stationary Engineer-1 or Stationary Engineer-2 as required. Operate and maintain assigned plants in a cost-effective, safe, reliable and efficient manner



  • Fill in for day or night shift Operations personnel as required during absences, such as, vacation or sick leave.
  • Operate assigned Plant to ensure compliance with:
  • published company operating policies and procedures
  • all regulatory agency requirements, including State, Federal and company environmental, health and safety policies
  • the continuous supply of commodities to the customers to meet their system demands
  • the contractual guarantees
  • the water treatment quality specifications
  • Monitor Plant operations through various controls, systems and technologies.
  • Ensure shift readings and records are accurate, complete and up to date.
  • Write work orders for identification and repair of plant equipment.
  • Maintain Lock Out – Tag Out Program.
  • Log, report and resolve customer issues.
  • Communicate clearly and directly with co-works and managers.
  • Maintain favorable working relationships in order to support positive employee morale, productivity and continued improvement.
  • Suggest methods to improve operations, processes, efficiency and service for the facility and to the customers.
  • When not working as an operator, assist with equipment maintenance and repairs as assigned.






Communications with manager and co-workers



Planning and scheduling



Performance of assigned duties (SE-1, SE-2, mechanic, etc.)



Performance of administrative duties (record keeping, logs, work orders, etc.)



Water treatment (Chemical inventory, usage, MSDS sheets, etc.)



Activities to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.



Employee training




  • Work day shift with Mechanics until needed to work swing shift for an Operator.
  • Expertise in power house equipment operation.
  • Must be familiar with boilers, chillers and pumps.
  • Have a good understanding of related equipment and processes.
  • Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a Stationary Engineer-1, including directing the activities of a Stationary Engineer 2
  • Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a Stationary Engineer-2. Make routine rounds, take equipment readings, assist with starting or stopping equipment, etc.
  • Possess the mechanical aptitude and skills necessary to assist with the performance of preventative and corrective maintenance on boilers, pumps and chillers
  • Have knowledge and ability to use a computer
  • Maintain safe working conditions
  • Possess the ability to learn and satisfactorily complete all mandatory training
  • Possess a good attitude





  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Class Stationary Engineer’s License or equivalent within area of jurisdiction.
  • Five years of experience operating stationary or marine utility operations.
  • Must possess the aptitude and skills necessary to perform mechanical tasks
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and tolerate heights up to 75 feet.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime when necessary.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, and clients/customers. 
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills
  • Possess written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers
  • Complete all documentation and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Manage time wisely and work effectively with a minimum level of supervision.
  • Ability to define and solve difficult problems with a variety of variables by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Be results oriented and a team player
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer (including word processing, spread sheets, etc.)
  • Knowledge or ability to learn the Siemens Desigo control system
